World Tourism Day was celebrated on 27 September, this year with the theme “Tourism for All – Promoting Universal Accessibility”, defined by the World Tourism Organization.
In Gerês, the business association Gerês Viver Turismo marked the date with activities focused on people with cognitive and motor limitations, such as hippotherapy (contact with horses), cycling and walking.
Users from three institutions in the district of Braga, namely Braga Delegation of ACAPO – Associação dos Cegos e Amblíopes de Portugal, CERCIGUI – Cooperativa de Educação e Reabilitação de Cidadãos Inadaptados de Guimarães and AIREV – Associação para a Integração e Reabilitação Social de Crianças e Jovens Deficientes de Vizela, they were able to enjoy direct contact with nature, the mountain and some of the fauna and flora of Gerês, with many moments of joy and satisfaction.
The City Council of Terras de Bouro joined the initiative with indispensable logistical support, and the activities were developed in partnership with three tourism animation companies (Equi Campo, Equi Desafios and Parque Cerdeira) based in Terras de Bouro.
An important cooperation effort that resulted in the unique demonstration that the mountain territory, in this case Gerês, and the heritage associated with it can and should be for everyone.
