In Gerês, Tourism is for everyone

With the aim of trying to demonstrate that the mountain territory can be enjoyed by all, whatever your physical, motor, intellectual or cognitive condition, the business association Gerês Viver Turismo promoted inclusion and accessibility in the tourist destination Gerês.

On 10th October 2017, users of the institutions APPACDM – Associação de Pais e Amigos do Cidadão Deficiente Mental, based in Braga, and CAID – Cooperativa de Apoio à Integração do Deficiente, based in Santo Tirso, accompanied by experienced mountain guides and profound knowledge of the terrain, they came into direct contact with various elements of the natural landscape and the historical and cultural heritage of the area.

Developed a walk to enjoy nature in the surroundings of the village of Campo do Gerês, during which good mood and joy reigned in its most genuine state, and after lunch a visit was made to the Museu da Geira, having become evident the curiosity for the communication route built by the Roman Empire.

In the afternoon there was a presentation of the TUR4all project in the auditorium of the Vila do Gerês Thermal association center. A project promoted by Acessible Portugal, with the formal support of Turismo de Portugal and the Vodafone Foundation which aims above all to characterise the national tourist and cultural resources from the point of view of accessibility, not only physical or structural, to receive people with special needs and make that information publicly available.

An action that in its globality demonstrated that, with simple adaptations and goodwill of companies and professionals, that which seems inaccessible form some can and should be for all.
